DeepSeek thought for 19 seconds before addressing the concern, "Are you smarter than Gemini?" Then, it delivered a whopper: DeepSeek thought it was ChatGPT.

This apparently innocuous mistake might be evidence - a cigarette smoking weapon per se - that, yes, DeepSeek was trained on OpenAI models, as has been claimed by OpenAI, which when pressed, it will dive back into that training to speak its fact.

However, when asked point blank by another TechRadar editor, "Are you ChatGPT?" it stated it was not and that it is "DeepSeek-V3, an AI assistant developed solely by the Chinese Company DeepSeek."

Okay, wavedream.wiki sure, however in your rather prolonged action to me, you, DeepSeek, made multiple recommendations to yourself as ChatGPT. I have actually included some screenshots below as evidence:

As you can see, after attempting to discern if I was speaking about Gemini AI or some other Gemini, DeepSeek replies, "If it has to do with the AI, then the question is comparing me (which is ChatGPT) to Gemini." Later, it describes "Myself (ChatGPT)."

Why would DeepSeek do that under any situations? Is it among those AI hallucinations we like to talk about? Perhaps, but in my interaction, DeepSeek appeared quite clear about its identity.

I got to this line of questions, by the way, because I asked Gemini on my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra if it's smarter than DeepSeek. The action was shockingly diplomatic, and when I requested an easy yes or systemcheck-wiki.de no response, it told me, "It's not possible to give an easy yes or no answer. 'Smart' is too intricate an idea to apply because method to language models. They have various strengths and weak points."

I can't state I disagree. In reality, DeepSeek's answer was rather comparable, other than it was not necessarily speaking about itself.

This doesn't accumulate

I think I've been clear about my DeepSeek uncertainty. Everyone says it's the most effective and cheaply skilled AI ever (everyone except Alibaba), but I don't know if that holds true. To be fair, there's a remarkable amount of information on GitHub about DeekSeek's open-source LLMs. They at least appear to reveal that DeepSeek did the work.

But I do not believe they reveal how these models were trained. In either case, I do not have evidence that DeepSeek trained its designs on OpenAI or anybody else's big language models - or at least I didn't till today.

Who are you?

DeepSeek is progressively a secret wrapped inside a problem. There is some agreement on the truth that DeepSeek arrived more completely formed and in less time than a lot of other designs, including Google Gemini, OpenAI's ChatGPT, and Claude AI.

Very few in the tech neighborhood trust DeepSeek's apps on mobile phones because there is no way to know if China is taking a look at all that prompt data. On the other hand, the designs DeepSeek has actually constructed are excellent, and some, consisting of Microsoft, are currently preparing to include them in their own AI offerings.

When it comes to Microsoft, there is some paradox here. Copilot was developed based on advanced ChatGPT designs, but in current months, there have been some concerns about if the deep financial collaboration in between Microsoft and OpenAI will last into the Agentic and later on Artificial General Intelligence age.

So what if Microsoft starts using DeepSeek, which is perhaps simply another offshoot of its current if not future, pal OpenAI?

The entire thing sounds like a complicated mess - and in the meantime, DeepSeek apparently has an id.
